ROOTED IN DEVOTION

Where Faith
Becomes Light

For the Indo-Caribbean community of Richmond Hill, Diwali is a connection to heritage, devotion and one another.

The Diwali Motorcade brings that connection into the streets of Little Guyana. Illuminated floats, Tassa, music and dance share the spirit of the Festival of Lights with neighbours, families and visitors.

From Lakshmi Puja to the procession and cultural performances, the celebration honours faith while giving each generation a way to take part.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE LIGHT

Presented by
Divya Jyoti Association Inc.

The Diwali Motorcade is presented by Divya Jyoti Association Inc., with the community at the heart of the celebration.

The leadership, volunteers, artists, participating families and supporters who help bring it to life carry forward a shared commitment to faith, culture and community.

A TRADITION WE CARRY FORWARD

Our Legacy

Every chapter belongs to the people who built this tradition, welcomed it back and continue to shape its future.

THE FOUNDATIONHonouring Dolly Singh

A tradition takes root.

The Diwali Motorcade’s legacy begins with founder Dolly Singh. We honour her place in the story of a celebration that connects Little Guyana through faith, culture and community.

A FIVE-YEAR PAUSEThe light endured

A shared tradition, held close.

The Motorcade paused for five years. The 2025 return opened a new chapter for the community and the celebration.

2025The return

The light came back to Liberty Avenue.

After the five-year pause, the Diwali Motorcade returned in 2025, welcoming more than 10,000 community members back to the streets of Queens.

THE NEXT CHAPTERCarrying it forward

A community keeps the tradition alive.

The ongoing leadership and the families, volunteers, artists and supporters who take part continue to carry the Motorcade forward. Each new celebration adds to the story and invites the next generation to make it their own.

THE LIGHT RETURNS

More than an event.
A Queens homecoming.

After a five-year pause, the Diwali Motorcade returned in 2025, brighter and stronger, welcoming more than 10,000 community members back to the streets of Queens.

The return was more than an event. It was a homecoming, and the beginning of the next chapter of this beloved Queens tradition.

10,000+

community members welcomed the Motorcade back in 2025.
